The first video is about the foundational knowledge of venture finance: the different kinds of options available.


Venture finance matters because it is, truly, the oxygen that enables your business to breathe. In other words, venture finance is an enabler to provide you with the resources to create value and build your business. Get to know all your tech startup financing options.

Without sufficient resources, a business cannot invest in the things that make it valuable, including: innovation, product and service design, sales and marketing, customer service and even general and administrative.

Most startup founders  are familiar with product/market fit – that is, “a minimum viable product that addresses and solves a problem or existing need”, or “a good market with a product that can satisfy that market." When it comes to venture finance, that same concept also applies.


In venture finance, the product you are selling is usually some type of security.  There is a large market of potential sources of financing, and that market can be segmented by type of investor or funder (e.g., friends and family, crowdfunding, state sponsored entrepreneur funds, startup accelerators and incubators, angels, micro-VC, corporate seed funds, or traditional VC firms).  


Likewise, that market can be segmented by geography, typically by city or region (e.g., Silicon Valley, London, Berlin, Singapore, Shanghai etc.) It is good advice to “fish where the fish are.”  Like a fisherman seeking to catch the ideal fish, you have to select the right fly/bait/lure.


The best entrepreneurs are always ready to pitch, with different pitches that can be tailored to different types of investors.  In order to position your venture for success, you should understand the motivations and investment methodologies and performance metrics for each type of investor.
